Course Description & Syllabus

This course is designated and tailored for IT Engineers, business professionals and other professionals who are non-native speakers of English, which has been the biggest barrier for their career development and daily life.  We aim to help people, who are either working or seeking employment, quickly improve their English through achieving the potentials in expressions without significant expansion of their vocabularies.  This program has proved to the most successful in opening students’ horizons and stimulating their interests in improving English.  We will teach students how to use key words to describe a complicated situation or express a strong feeling, and how to write English effectively to improve the efficiency of communication. Besides learning the business terms, expressions and concepts, students will learn about the values and culture of North American.  

This course is divided into 10 sessions, 5 for writing and 5 for oral communication with 3 hours for each session on Tuesday evenings.  Students each will have the chance to practice writing 5 to 8 essays, depending on the size of the class, which could be an email or business letter and will be discussed synonymously in class.  The oral sessions will cover business concepts, interview English, American Idioms, office politics and popular topics at office.  Students are expected to master 200 frequently-used sentences and expressions in business and daily life, 500 to 800 key words of specific meanings in different contexts or situations, and 100 business terms. 

Our program and methods are unique because we teach people how to use simple and plain English to express complicated things through using key words, terminology and idioms/phrases to achieve conciseness and effectiveness in business communication.  Our instructor, Tim, gradated from one of the top MBA programs in the world and has worked with one of the most prestigious consulting firms in North America.  With a deep understanding of both Chinese culture and North America, he himself has been a successful story of achieving ideal career development through improved English and communication skills and has trained thousands of IT and business professionals to succeed in their employment hunting and career ladder climbing.  He is going to teach his students those stuffs that he has learned from his colorful business experiences and that he found most useful in business and at work.
